Hey there!! Absolutely you may share anything I write. I think I have decided that if I put it out there on the internet for the world to see (even though it's more of a journal for my kids...then I should be OK with sharing it with others.)

You know, it's funny. Part of me said, don't write this -- just ignore it, like I have a million other times. Then I realized that I would be just as "politically correct" as the others who avoid the simple truths of legal versus illegal. I am so weary of political correctness. I am truly saddened by the loss of morality in our nation and the crimes committed on innocent people in the name of social justice. Thus is a huge loss for both citizens and illegals. Doing the "right thing" really has no borders, don't you think? It can only hurt us gravely.

I follow another blog of a brilliant young man -- he has taught at our church a few times (graduate of WTS-CA - getting further education at Emory in Ethics). These two posts might add to your discussion in a little more depth in a very different way. My piece is more personal -- how this kind of crime affects us personally and socially. Matthew's pieces have some long term perspective. http://matthewtuininga.wordpress.com/2012/05/16/fiscal-conservatism-seems-to-work-for-germany-and-social-justice-needs-to-work/ AND

http://matthewtuininga.wordpress.com/2012/05/17/minorities-might-be-saving-america-in-more-ways-than-one/

I love this statement, "One thing that is clear is that economic prosperity matters. We could have the most just social welfare system in the world on paper, and if the country cannot afford it and the economy cannot sustain it, the poor will be much worse off. That doesn’t mean we should cast off the poor and turn to laissez-faire economics. But it does suggest that what works matters just as much as what sounds right."

The second piece really has made me think....I don't think I'll be alive to see this, but I wish I would be. :) Be well, my dear sister in the Lord!

You have hit the nail on the head in so many areas here, and I hope you don't mind but I am going to re-post this on my facebook page. I had an interesting discussion going on just this issue awhile back and the reasoning ( bad & irrational) so many used to justify allowing or overlooking illegal aliens into our country just blew me away. You have answered all the silly and hostile things addressed to me with rational, kind, and Christian commentary. Thanks.

You are very welcome! How nice that both of us have discovered how the means of grace, such a simple concept, reaches deep and soothes the heart that has been injured by me-ology. It is so interesting that we both landed in the URC. Now that I'm planted firmly in the Reformed world (you'd have to pry me away) -- I've started writing "hymns" using the Psalms, trying to use the text only (ESV). One day I hope to put some of them online. It's a long process because I am purposely trying to be faithful to scripture (so our kids can memorize scripture) -- and because I want all 4 parts on paper (like a hymn). I learned a lot from reading real music as a child -- our kids deserve this. Maybe one day you will see some of them on there.

I am so happy to make your acquaintance, my sister in Christ and in the URC! BTW - were you able to hear Dr. Horton at the Mockingbird Conference? I don't think it was far from you.

thank you. As a former worship leader in a wanna-be mega church, i totally get this. it was not Theology but rather Me-ology that poured out from the pulpit and sunday school. Not too, that my husband and I have been at W. Sayville (URC) we have learned the true Gospel and that Christ is our only hope/comfort in life and death.

thank you for sharing this.

It really does require a learning curve, Holly...but worth it. I wish I could eat spelt -- my daughter can, but so far, the nutritionist says no. (She goes to the same nutritionist.) I have a lot of allergies and sensitivities due to growing up in a toxic waste dump. :(

I am not sure coconut and almond flours will work well with sourdough starters. You do not use yeast with these flours -- at least I haven't seen any recipes that do. However, that does not mean one cannot experiment. Oh, how I would LOVE some sourdough.

You know, there is a neat flour called Montina. You would have to probably buy it online but it is made out of Indian Ricegrass (I think that's the name.) I LOVE bread made out of it. It is like real bread...and the grains are natural in their native form. http://www.theglutenfreelifestyle.com/montina.html

It is higher in protein...and somehow, I just bet this one would work with sourdough. :) But, it is still a grain.....just a healthier one. I am working to emininate GMOs in everything we eat...it is so hard...

Actually, yes! I am trying to learn how to make a variety of breads, muffins...and hopefully sourdough out of different flours (not sure how well coconut or almond flour will work as a sourdough). I am also experimenting with sourdough itself, using wild starters.

So far, I have been mostly experimenting with spelt and millet, but from what I understand, they really should be soaked prior to using. Our goal is to try to use food, to the greatest extent possible, in its pre-industrialized form. It's a lot of work and quite an education. Although my mother taught me to cook and I grew up around family members to whom food = love and celebration, a lot has changed since even then. Much has ceased to be passed from one generation to the next.

Hi Holly -- yes, I cook with Coconut flour all the time. It's a bit different -- you need to use a lot of eggs, which is a good thing for you. Anything in particular you are looking for to make? I've made muffins, cookies, etc....my next quest is to make a bread out of coconut flour.

Kathy - Thank you so much for those kind words! They were just what I needed to hear today! Mom had a big hand in guiding my faith, although in an Arminian world. :) She took me to church AM, PM and Weds....and over the course of those years, the nuggets of the gospel found their way into my heart. It is going to be much harder when my dad dies. He is not a Christian. It has certainly given me cause for great reflection this week. I hope you are well - and I think of you guys often. Thanks again for your kind word -- I truly appreciate them.
